By taking some chances and introducing new characters and concepts to the world of Pirates, Dead Man’s Chest manages to be intriguing and exhilarating enough to forgive its several shortcomings.
The action scenes use a great mixture of CGI and practical effects, which still hold up to this day. Although the movie suffers from some poor pacing and repetitive plot beats, it’s still tons of fun to watch. If you enjoy Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, you should definitely check out Dead Man’s Chest. Regardless, Dead Man’s Chest is a film full of wild action and peril, where consequences are serious and gruesome. While fans of bloody pirate action will potentially be pleased, Disney fans ready to watch Dead Man’s Chest with their children may not. The violence is occasionally downplayed for laughs, but the themes are still very persistent.
Unlike the first movie, Dead Man’s Chest contains some notably violent scenes, including instances of dismemberment, torture, and even cannibalism. The adventure to locate and obtain the chest is a surprisingly violent and dark one, but full of explosive action scenes.
